TIBCO's Business Studio 3.0 – a boost for the iProcess Suite
Friday, May 16, 2008 by admin
One of the chief issues that we saw in TIBCO’s iProcess Suite when doing our assessment was the gaps and overlaps that existed between the two modelling and development environments that were part of the suite. We mentioned in the report that with the planned launch of Business Studio 3.0, TIBCO was pledging that reliance on the other tool (the iProcess Modeler, which was a “heritage” component left over from the Staffware acquisition) would finally be removed – enabling Business Studio to be used for all design work, no matter how sophisticated and complex.
(Previously, customers could use Business Studio when modelling simple processes, but if you wanted to model more complex or dynamic behaviour, you had to move to iProcess Modeler – which created all kinds of challenges).
Well, at the TUCON event a couple of weeks back, TIBCO showed off Business Studio 3.0 and it certainly does what was planned. Reliance on iProcess Modeler is removed, and the result is a suite that hangs together much, much better – this is an improvement that’s been long overdue and is very welcome.
We’ll carry out a full analysis of how this (and other improvements) affects the overall TIBCO offering and its scoring in our interactive comparison tool, when we do a full review of our assessment research stream in September/October. (We’re committed to reviewing our assessment model, and all our assessment reports and the vendor data in our comparison tool, every 6 months).
In the meantime, if you want a more detailed overview of the implications of these improvements, and you’re a subscriber to the service with the analyst access option, just submit an enquiry and we’ll spend some time talking it through with you.
