Four updated vendor assessments

Friday, July 10, 2009 by

A week ago (I meant to post immediately, it’s been hectic here) we published four updated BPM Vendor Capability Assessment (VCA) reports – focused on Lombardi, IBM, Pegasystems and TIBCO. Summary versions of these reports are all available free-of-charge in our Guest Pass library, and subscribers to our BPM advisory service can access the full-length versions (together with our online, interactive vendor comparison tool).

With Lombardi, the big news we wanted to capture was Teamworks 7; with IBM, it was release 6.2 of the WebSphere BPM components, together with BPM BlueWorks and some FileNet enhancements; with Pegasystems, it was the release of a whole range of “Federated Business Frameworks“; and with TIBCO, there was the release of an add-on which brings Spotfire into the BPM mix, among other things.

In the coming days, we’ll publish an updated version of our Vendor Capability Comparison overview report, which aims to quickly show how all these updated (and those not updated) assessments compare.

We review all our assessments every six months. Sometimes, when there’s nothing major that’s occurred with a given vendor, we don’t updated them in a review cycle. That’s what we did this time with Appian, Oracle and Software AG.

Oracle’s doing a lot of work behind the scenes on its BPM offering, and we’re scheduled to have a detailed briefing on the changes and plans soon – so we’ll be sure to catch the updated situation in our next round of assessment updates, planned for Nov/Dec 09. We also expect to be revisiting Appian and Software AG in that timeframe.

Last but not least, you should expect a handful of further assessments to arrive in the coming months – there are many other vendors out there with interesting offerings. The challenge for us is prioritisation!
