New collaboration reports!

Tuesday, August 4, 2009 by

Wow what a busy month July has been! Over the last few weeks, we have seen a veritable plethora of new and updated reports published to the MWD collaboration advisory service, just in time for you to take a look at before the August break.

We’ve updated three of our vendor capability assessment reports – service subscribers can download the full assessments for Cisco, IBM and Microsoft, while freely available summaries of the reports are available here to Guest Pass users: Cisco, IBM, Microsoft. Alongside these, we have published a new Vendor Capability Comparison report, which provides an overview of the state of the collaboration software market today, explains our approach to assessing collaboration software offerings, and lays out a high-level comparison of the offerings from the four vendors we currently cover in our in-depth assessments.

We have also published two new On The Radar reports to our Guest Pass library, focused on online communities vendor, IGLOO, and enterprise microblogging vendor, Yammer (think Twitter for business).

And last but not least comes the results of our latest collaboration market survey, which presents the views of business and IT managers from 200 European organisations across seven vertical industries, on their collaboration practices, perceptions and technology usage. Here are some of the key findings from the report:

  • instant messaging is approaching mainstream usage within organisations, although, with much of this coming from use of consumer-focused tools, there is a heightened level of risk associated with such usage.
  • despite growing adoption of social software tools within organisations, there remains uncertainty as to whether such tools present a benefit or risk to the organisation, suggesting that governance is somewhat lacking.
  • although SaaS is the hot topic among collaboration software vendors, our research suggests that organisations are simply not yet ready to embrace this model, with the vast majority sticking to on-premise software.
