Fools with tools, Taylorism and BPM

Because one of the main themes of our research programs here at MWD this year has been the role of IT in improving customer experiences, I’ve been doing quite a lot of primary research work (including many case studies, some of which are published as reports) looking at how organisations are using BPM technology and [...]

IBM Cognos 10 – moving beyond traditional BI

Yesterday IBM finally took the wrappers off Cognos 10 during the company’s Information-on- Demand event in Las Vegas. This is an important release for the company as it demonstrates IBM’s on-going commitment to Business Analytics and the Cognos brand. In particular it builds on the success of the company’s existing BI and PM offering whilst [...]

SAP HANA – betting big on in-memory

Last week I attended SAP TechEd in Berlin, the business application vendor’s premier European developer conference. During an event packed with NetWeaver 7.3 announcements, SAP chose to highlight its on-going commitment to in-memory computing with HANA, its High-performance Analytic Appliance. This version of HANA is designed to enable faster ways to process data from business [...]

Blueworks Live: making the ‘long tail’ of business processes social

Earlier this week, as part of its autumn 2010 launch of updated ‘business agility’ offerings covering BPM, SOA, virtualisation and cloud computing topics, IBM announced the upcoming launch of a new SaaS offering for organisations pursuing business agility initiatives: Blueworks Live. Blueworks Live isn’t IBM’s first foray into the world of SaaS tools for customers [...]

Active Endpoints continues strong growth with ActiveVOS 8.0

Yesterday Active Endpoints announced its Q3 results. The really eye-catching piece was that total revenue in the quarter (July-September) was three times as high as revenue in the same quarter of 2009. The company called out government, telecoms and financial services as being areas of particularly strong growth and highlighted European wins in Finland (telecoms) [...]

ActuateOne – aiming for the “suite” spot

Last month Actuate unleashed a slew of products announcements that are wrapped up an umbrella brand ActuateOne – a unified product suite for developing and deploying reporting, analytic and dashboard applications. The suite leverages the open source Eclipse project, BIRT, and utilises the core capabilities of Actuate 11, the company’s commercial BI offering for large [...]

Yammer turns 2; releases Yammer 2.0

As the most high-profile example of microblogging for the enterprise, Yammer has built up an impressive userbase in only two years, with over 1 million users, and 80,000 networks on its service. Earlier this week, I met up with Keith McCarty, who is setting up a new operation for Yammer in London, to find out [...]

Of Process Manifestos, Toriaezu and skills shortages – just another day with BPM

Earlier this week I spoke at IRM’s BPM Conference Europe 2010 in London (along with many others, including Sandy Kemsley). This is a conference heavy on real-world implementation stories and comparatively lighter on industry trends and vision, and for that reason it’s always really interesting to explore. As usual, Sandy has already written up some [...]

Are we seeing the dawn of the social intranet?

Last week I was lucky enough to be invited to attend and present at a new London-based conference called Intranets at Work, which was hosted by J.Boye. The attendees were mostly intranet managers (whether by name or by activity), and the event included a strong collection of presentations from both practictioners and consultants, as well [...]
