To predict or not to predict? Beyond fortune cookie blah

You’ve seen them; I’ve seen them.

Seven ways mobile devices will transform your work in 2011!

Top 10 trends in server hardware you have to understand!

99 sharp implements that lists of surface-level platitudes will make you want to poke into your eyes!

When it comes to November each year (it gets earlier each year, just like Christmas promotions in retail stores and on TV) column writers, bloggers, industry analysts and other pundits wheel out their predictions for the coming year. It’s like an arms race; it’s easy to feel that we all have to do it because… well… because everyone else is doing it.

So, given my  probably quite obvious antipathy to the business of publishing industry predictions, why am I blogging today to highlight three free MWD reports that you can download now to explore our views of 2011 trends in BPM, Collaboration and Analytics & Information Management?

It’s because although we’re on this particular wagon this year, we’ve really tried to go beyond ‘fortune cookie blah’ and provide deeper insights with more context than you might usually find. Our approach as an analyst firm is to focus on competencies, not technologies, and to spend at least as much time on researching practicalities and ‘soft issues’ as we do researching new ‘innovations’. We try to show how leaders create business improvements from IT investments, and as a result our reports can look a little different to some others you might come across.

So these particular reports aren’t quick studies containing lists of bullet points: they’re 9-10 pages long. Now that might mean you’re put off reading them… but equally we’re hoping that you might be more inclined to dig in.

Take a look at our library – all three ’2011 Outlook’ reports are all free to access – and please do let us know if you find them interesting/useful.
