Driven by the continued success of companies like Salesforce.com, the software-as-a-service (SaaS) delivery model has become an increasingly important element of the mix of technology sourcing options available to enterprises over the past two years. With the recent announcements from IBM and Microsoft introducing major SaaS-based portfolios centred on collaboration software, organisations need to answer two key questions. Firstly, what are the opportunities and challenges associated with using SaaS-based collaboration software applications? And secondly, to what extent should I consider using SaaS-based applications in my collaboration initiatives now and in the next couple of years?
