synopsis

BEA's service infrastructure proposition, based on the new AquaLogic family of products, has clearly benefited from the company's distributed computing pedigree. AquaLogic does possess some impressive capabilities and should be particularly appealing to existing BEA customers who are looking to evolve their project-level SOA initiatives - but it only addresses a subset of service infrastructure requirements. The company has made strenuous efforts to differentiate AquaLogic from its Java-centric WebLogic product family; but AquaLogic includes and depends on existing WebLogic products, which will cause confusion unless BEA more clearly distinguishes between its application and service infrastructure offerings.
