synopsis

webMethods started life developing and selling a B2B integration product which implemented a forerunner of today's web services protocols. Now it is again looking for a technology leadership position in the delivery of integration infrastructure. But at the same time, the company is also developing, marketing and selling software offerings tailored to meeting specific business and industry challenges. In doing this, it is (intentionally or otherwise) setting itself up to be more of a direct competitor of the likes of SAP, than it is to the likes of BEA.
